Before I write about our latest fun summer adventure, I can't forget to mention that Kason finally learned how to pedal a bike! He hasn't had any interest in learning how to pedal until lately. Isaac and he worked on it together and it finally clicked. Now, with his cool garage sale helmet, we can hardly get him off of it. He LOVES it! He's currently riding an abandoned spiderman bike that someone left around here that is the perfect size for him. We're on the craigslist hunt for one of his own.
We went for a fun vacation to Depoe Bay with my family. It was a very fun time and we even had great weather for the coast - still a bit chilly for me at times, but sunshine the whole time! Amidst all this fun Isaac is still trying to feverishly prep for his upcoming challenging class to teach and get his second paper in for his dissertation.
The view from our place
The shark tunnel is always the big hit. This day there were divers in the tank cleaning it and the boys were enthralled by them. It actually was pretty cool. One was protecting the cleaning diver with a stick!
The boys looking at the divers.
The touch tank. I think I'll always remember this spot a little differently from here on out. After this we went to the jellyfish tank, the crabs...looking at all the displays when I realized after awhile that Kason wasn't with who I thought he was. Everyone thought he was with someone else. I started to feel that panic feeling as I looked all around the room for him, but couldn't find him. He's never been "lost" before. Everyone went different ways looking for him then and Jenna and I finally found him bawling his eyes out with one of the workers at the touch tank. He just gave me a big hug. He was pretty good about holding onto someone's hand after that. Scary!
At an observation tunnel in one of the tanks. Kason was holding his breath in the tunnel since he was "under the water".
Asher still didn't love the waves and would run back yelling "water coming, scary!"
-Lots of Swimming! There were a few pools at this place and while the water was slightly chilly it was alot of fun. One of the pools overlooked the ocean.
This ring might be one of the best dollars we have ever spent.
Kason has gotten alot more comfortable in the water and can hold his breath for awhile now. He loves his goggles.
-Whale watching boat. Notice this is as we are getting ready to leave - why we are all still smiling. We were all so excited to go. Isaac does get motion sickness so he had taken some stuff and we were good to go! The captain told us that instead of looking at the resident gray whales there were reports of blue whales a few more miles out that were feeding that we were going to go try to find. He told us not to ride in the front because the water was extremely choppy that day and we would get soaked because he was going to go really fast to get out there in time. No problem, we thought. I never usually have problems with motion sickness, but it was awful. I'm blaming it on the pregnancy. I threw up a couple times, my mom and dad got sick, Kason was crying because he was sick. My sisters did not get sick and Jenna held Asher the whole time, who FELL ASLEEP! I didn't feel too badly for getting sick, though, because most everyone on the boat was. There was a group of kids on and half of them were just leaning over the rail the whole time and one lady ran to the rail 6 times!! We didn't see the whales to boot, but it is really funny to think about now.
-Yaquina Head Lighthouse and Tidepools. It was a super windy day!
